AWS Developer Account Issue

jotting down a positive support experience I had with AWS.

After many many months, I decided to jump in to do some AWS devops (to complement my existing devops skills with GitHub and Azure). I logged in to my amazon account, and I found that, I had to, sort of, re-register or something to reach my AWS console.

Eventually, I got stuck at one specific page where my account had to be verified via phone call. This is fairly standard process that I have seen with many other services. So, I switched on my verification phone, hit the call button on the aws page, and waited.

The call simply did not come. Tried again, nope. Another browser, nope. After a few hours. nope.

I figured, okay. So, raised a support request. Now, at this stage, unlike on my Azure or GitHub account, I am not a paying customer to AWS. So, I did not know how long it would take for AWS support to respond. I see in my notes that I got an email response within an hour or something, similar to the speed I have noticed with Azure.

That’s good. Then, I also noticed that the AWS support had tried to call me, but, my phone was blocking the calls as spam. Ah. So, I added the AWS number to the safe number list. A nice gentleman spoke on the phone, and promised to sort.

Eventually, we found out that, there was something wrong with the account. So, he had to co-ordinate the issue with the account department, and that it is a issue that can take a while. As a guy who has been in IT for more than 25 years, I was happy to wait, for I have seen similar issues with other cloud providers, especially when accounts related issues crop.

As the days roll by, at least once a day, the dude would email me that issue is ongoing and keep me updated with any updates (or no updates if there is no new information). Eventually, I had to provide some additional information, and again, the waiting and daily update emails from the support person, and eventually, I was able to login to my AWS console.

almost immediately, I logged, deployed a quick react app using amplify.

amplify. nice.

It’s always nice when a story has a happy ending.
