IGNOU has opened the re-registration for the July 2024 Cycle. In this post, I have detailed the necessary steps.

this is a sequel to.

As with a regular college, the students of IGNOU also have to sign up and pay the necessary fees to continue on to the next year. As is my general habit, I make it a point to visit the IGNOU site, particularly the ‘latest news’ and the ‘alerts’ section to see about new announcements.

This is like the notice board we used to have back when I was on campus.

The link is here.

onlinerr.ignou.ac.in

It clearly says the following.

Now, obviously, today is May 2nd 2024. The deadline is more than 55 days away. But, you know, I don’t think it’s a good idea to wait till the last minute to get something done. Especially something that can be done today.

So, first step is to log into the ‘ignou.samarth.edu.in’ website with my student credentials. This should alread be there because re-registration can only be done by folks who have completed at least 1 year in the course. So, after logging in, there is a nice direct link staring at me.

On clicking that button (I don’t have screenshot for how that page looks), similar to the 1st Year/Previous Year, I was shown a long list of subjects, which fall into mandatory courses (that are already preselected) and elective courses (that I can select from a list of options).

Just like I did last year, I picked courses that I have never even heard of or courses that might be plain fun.

So, for 2nd year, I decided to go with.

  1. Tourism Anthropology (I mean, I am a digital nomad. Let’s see what you get to learn in a formal course)
  2. Psychology for Health and Well Being (this reminds me of my estranged spouse. she is a PhD in Psychology, but couldn’t psychoanalyze her own husband, which is me)
  3. Managing Stress (I have a feeling, this might get interesting or at least, require less reading)
  4. Psychology and Media (again, this reminds me of my estranged wife, as in the 2nd elective above).

After selection, the payment page shows up. IGNOU is fairly modern when it comes to payment options. You can pay with everything from UPI to credit card to debit card to netbanking.

Once that is done, I got a nice confirmation. And, almost immediately, my student profile was updated to show all 18 subjects that are now part of BA English degree, till 2nd Year. Which means, 1st Year is 8 subjects. 2nd Year is 10 subjects. Whoa! Okay.

So, there is that. Due to some confusion and preoccupation, last year, I did not write a single exam in the December edition of exams. That means, in the upcoming June/July 2024 edition of exams, I am writing an impressive 8 subjects.

However, I am hoping, at least in the December 2024 edition, I will write the proper 5 subjects, as expected of a student. Further, it will reduce the burden of assignments to be written and exams to be written. Allowing me to return to enjoying studying BA rather than it is becoming an accidental chore that needs pushing through.
